Violet Hive

About

Below are all of the Violet Assets which can be purchased with Violet Advancement Points (VAP). Your character’s base power and level of mutation access comes from the “Alate Violet” Asset. You cannot purchase the “Drone Violet” Asset (you’re better than that). The remaining Assets are available for purchase with VAP and augment the abilities of you and your Hive. As with regular traits, a single trait cannot be increased by more than one step per session. See the Violet Strain page for a list of inherent abilities that Violets possess. Each d2 Violet Asset trait costs 3 VAP (so a d4 would be 6 VAP, d6 would be 9 VAP, and so on).

Violet Assets

Below are a list of base Violet Assets. Every Violet has at least one of these Assets and the die rating at which they have this Asset determines what Tier of their mutation they can access.

New Asset: Alate Violet (d2-d6)

A special class of Violet called Alates, it allows them to pull Violets into their own “Hive” and combine a group of Violets into a more effective group. Alates can have a number of Drone Violets (see below) equal to their Asset rating. An Alate Violet can create other Violets with access to powers depending on how powerful the Alate Violet is. The roll to turn a human (not Red) to Violet is Vitality + Willpower + Alate Violet. Nova-Tiers are Easy and have the Drone Violet d2 Asset, Supernova-Tiers are Average and have the Drone Violet d4 Asset, and Hypernova-Tiers are Hard and have the Drone Violet d6 Asset. Other modifiers also influence this roll. The created drone goes typically acquires a Complication to offset the new Asset gain. All Alate Violets have the innate abilities of the Violet Strain.

d2 Rating: Alate Violets of this rating are capable of building only the most basic structure, everyone in the hive gains a sense of the general feeling and well being of others (fine, hurt, unconscious) in the Hive if they’re within line of sight.

Alates gain the ability to create other Violets which have access to Nova-Tier abilities of a single mutation with the Drone Violet Asset at a d2 rating. If the target doesn’t have enough advancement points to pay for the Asset, the Storyteller will choose an appropriate Complication which accompanies their Asset acquisition.

Every member of the Hive can access the Alates other Hive Assets up to d2 Rating. Alates with this Asset rating can have one additional Violet (not including themselves) in their Hive.

d4 Rating: Alate Violets of this level are more advanced and develop slightly larger Hives with a more intuitive sense of each others well-being. The Violets sense of their teammates becomes instinctual. Each member of the Hive can sense how many charges every other member has, what their relative health is (rough estimate of stun / wound suffered), and any maledictions the Hive member is currently suffering from.

Alates can create Drone Violets as per the previous version of this Asset except up to a d4 Rating, allowing them access to Supernova-Tier abilities.

Every member of the Hive can access the Alates other Hive Assets up to d4 Rating. Alates with this Asset rating can have an additional Violet in their Hive, for a total of two members (not including themselves).

d6 Rating: Capable of creating one of the most powerful and close knit Hive structures, Alate Violets of this level develop a Hive of precise of close-knit Violets. Each member of the Hive can spend plot points on behalf of another member of the Hive once per scene, to a maximum of half their Violet Alate’s Asset rating for a single roll.

Alates can create Drone Violets as per the previous version of this Asset except up to a d6 Rating, allowing them access to Hypernova-Tier abilities.

Every member of the Hive can access the Alates other Hive Assets up to d6 Rating. Alates with this Asset rating can have one additional member in their Hive, for a total of three members (not including themselves).

New Asset: Violet Drone (d2-d6)

Prerequisites: Human (Non-Red)
A human acquires this Asset upon becoming a Violet. The tier at which they have this Asset determines which Violet Tier power they can access. At d2, the Violet only has access to Nova-Tier abilities. At d4, the Violet gains access to Supernova-Tier abilities. Lastly, at d6, the Violet gains access to their pinnacle Hypernova-Tier abilities. All Drone Violets have the innate abilities of the Violet Strain. Violet Drones can only be a part of one Hive at a time.

Violet Hive Assets

Available only to Alate and Sovereign Violets, these Assets allow the Violet to perform incredible feats with members of their Hive.

New Asset: Collective Mutation (d2+)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d4
A Violet Have Alate that develops this ability masters sharing the powers of personal mutations among members of their Hive.

d2 Rating: When activating her mutation, the Violet can voluntarily take a -1 step penalty to her Attributes to affect one additional member of her Hive within line of sight. The Violet cannot use this Asset if the penalty reduces either of her Attributes to 0. Each member of the Hive can only benefit from one additional mutation at a time.

d4+ Rating: For each die rating above d2 the Violet has, she can accept an additional step penalty to allow her mutation to benefit an additional Hive member within line of sight, to a maximum of half this Asset rating in additional Hive members. This also applies to the number of additional mutations a Violet in the Hive can benefit from, meaning each Violet can benefit from a number of additional mutations equal to half this Asset rating. As with the d2 Rating, if the Violet reduces either Attribute to 0 she cannot attempt use this Asset.

New Asset: Combination Power (d2-d6)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d4
Violet Hives whose Alate have this asset specialize in using their abilities in conjunction with one another. When they do, they can produce more reliable or even brand new abilities that are the result of their combined mutations.

d2 Rating: When two Violets of the same Hive hold Initiative to act together and activate both of their mutations at the same time within line of sight of one another, both benefit from the highest Skill die result between the two.

d4 Rating: As d2, but both also benefit from the highest Asset roll between the two of them.

d6 Rating: As d4, but both also benefit from the highest Attribute rolls between the two of them. Hive Alates that have achieved this level of mastery can also attempt to bend their powers together to create an entirely new affect. The result has to fit the thematics of both abilities and is subject to the ST’s approval but entirely new applications of mutations are possible. Both Hive members must take an action to activate their mutation on the same turn to create a single new affect. One member of the Hive must also spend a Charge to facilitate the new power.

New Asset: Empathic Hive (d2-d6)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d2
Violet Hives with an Alate that develop this ability gain an intuitive understanding which allows them to quickly communicate ideas to one another even in the heat of combat.

d2 Rating: When one member of the Hive succeeds at a single personal skill check (such as a Perception check), the entire HIve also succeed on the check provided they’re within line of sight of both the Hive member and the target.

d4 Rating: By taking a single turn to glance over the Hive members within line of sight, each member can pose a single question and know in detail how each member of the Hive feels and would respond to the question. For a single plot point, the Hive member can gain an intuitive understanding of every Hive member’s feelings even if they are not within line of sight.

d6 Rating: By taking a single action to focus or make a single gesture, each Hive member can convey a complex series of thoughts instinctively to every other Hive member within line of sight. The conveyor also has a sense of how the other Hive members would respond, and effectively can have a “dialogue” of up to a few minutes in a matter of moments. At this level of mastery, a Hive member can also spend one plot point to reflexively convey a simple thought to any Hive member they know the location of.

New Asset: Share Charges (d2-d6)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d6
The Hive develops an intrinsic photonic connection to all other members of the Hive, and gain the following benefits when in the presence of one another.

d2 Rating: One member of the Hive can spend expend a single charge as an action and grant that charge to another member of the Hive. This Asset also allows the Violet to take an action to touch one other Hive member and transfer a single charge.

d4 Rating: When one member of the Hive expends a single charge, another member of the Hive on their next turn can also act as though they expended a single charge as well (without actually having to spend one). The Violet at this rating can also either transfer two charges at once to a single person with a single action or transfer one charge to two people as a single action (assuming they’re all touching).

d6 Rating: As the d4 Rating, except one additional member of the Hive can also act as though they had expended a charge on their next turn. The Violet an also transfer three charges to one Violet with a single action or up to three charges to up to three Hive members (split any way the Violet wishes) with a single action. Both the benefactor and the recipient must be touching in order to transfer Charges.

New Asset: Stronger Together (d2+)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d2
With this mutation, the Violets of a single Hive add this Asset die rating to any roll that directly benefits a member of their Hive. This could be anything from aiding them on an action (whether limited or full assistance) or intervening in an attack that targets them directly. It also applies to social rolls made among Hive members and for each member of the Hive to resist any form of mental influence that would cause them to betray or otherwise harm a member of their Hive.

New Asset: Tag Team [Move] (d2+)

Prerequisites: Drone Violet d2
Designed to allow Violets of the same hive to synergize their abilities with one another, this Asset represents training in a special combination of attacks between two Violets. Both must activate the same move on the same turn and both gain this Asset Rating to their Violet Mutation activation rolls.

All Drones can use this Asset with Alates or Sovereigns, allowing either to fill in for one of the teamwork rolls (if they have an appropriate mutation or can reasonably fill the rolel). See the Violet Teamwork page for Assets created.

New Asset: Teamwork (d2-d6)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d2
Violet Hives with this mutation work in tandem together with incredible efficiency, able to accomplish incredible feats together that they never could apart.

d2 Rating: When one hive member assists the other on a single skill roll, which can be done even when otherwise not normally allowed, the primary actor can re-roll their Skill die and take the higher result. This ability stacks with existing teamwork rules.

d4 Rating: As d2, except this also applies to Asset dice and requires an additional Hive member (for a total of two other Violets).

d6 Rating: As d4, except this also applies to one Attribute die and requires an additional Hive member (for a total of 3 other Violets).

Generic Violet Assets

Below are Assets available to Violets with prerequisites listed for each Asset. These are personal Assets that augment a single Violet.

Conjunctive Power (d4)

Prerequisites: Alate/Drone Violet d4
You’ve developed the ability to activate your mutation as part of another action. You may take a single action to activate both your mutation and take a single action as part of the same action. Both actions must affect the same target and if the conjoined action fails to affect the target your mutation also automatically fails. Examples of this Asset include an Electrokinetic delivering a charged unarmed strike to an opponent or a Pyrokineticist causing the target to erupt into flames on a successful shot from her pistol. Other non-combat examples would include the same Electrokineticist using her power to short out a security panel as she disables it but are otherwise covered by the same merit provided both actions affect the same target.

Dash of Blue (d2-d4)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d2/d4
With this Asset, Violets can turn Red into Violets. At the d2 version of this Asset (which requires Alate Violet d2), the Violet can change Stage 1 Reds into full Violets under the Violet Alate rules (above). At the d4 version of this Asset (which requires Alate Violet d4), the Violet can also change Stage 2 and 3 Reds into full Violets.

Expanded Hive (d2+)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d6
Alate Violets can develop the ability to increase their HIve beyond their natural potential. For each d2 purchased in this Asset, the Violet Alate can add one additional member to their Hive.

Hive Adoption (d2+)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d4
With this Asset, Alate Violets can treat another Violet Drones as though they were a member of her Hive. This requires the Alate Violet spent a plot point to do so for the scene and doesn’t require an action. For each additional rank purchased in this Asset, the Alate Violet can adopt an additional Drone Violet for the scene by spending an additional plot point (to a maximum of half this Asset rating in Drone Violets in a single scene). This asset circumvents the normal rule that a Violet Drone can only belong to one Hive, and a Violet Drone that is already a part of a Hive that gets “adopted” is considered to be a part of both Hives for the scene.

Light Efficiency (d4)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d2 or Drone Violet d2
Violets with this Asset have a particularly efficient way of processing and storing Charges. Upon taking this Asset, the Violet gains a charge in half the exposure time (2 hours instead of 4), can store two additional charges, and can go twice as long before losing a charge (Vitality instead of [Vitality / 2] days).

Potent Power (d2+)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d2 or Drone Violet d2
Violets normally use their Alate or Drone Asset rating as the damage rating for offensive powers. Each d2 purchased in this Asset provides an additional +1 increase to the Violet’s damage rating. For example, a Violet with a Drone Violet Asset d4 and a Potent Power Asset d6 would deal a d10 damage with her offensive power.

Secondary Mutation (d2-d6)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d6
Taking this Asset allows the Alate to gain access to a secondary Violet mutation. At d2 this Asset grants access to Nova-Tier powers. At d4, Supernova-Tier powers. Lastly, upon achieving a d6 in this Asset, the Alate gains access to Hypernova-Tier powers of her secondary mutation.

Gifts From the Sovereign

Below are the two Assets granted to Annie and Segovia from the Sovereign Violet.

Call to Arms (d2)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d6
While Alates can only have so many Violets active in their Hive, an Alate with this ability can reconfigure their Hive with about a scene worth of work. Every Hive is different, some spend an hour “eating” together while others spend an hour engaged in recreational activity. Either way, after spending an hour with the targets the Alate Violet can “reallocate” her Hive to those present, to a maximum of her total Hive members as normal. Typically Alates use this ability to assemble a specialized team before an Op.

Unlocked Potential (d2)

Prerequisites: Alate Violet d6
Each NPC converted to Violet has a latent ability. The difficulty to unlock this ability is unknown, but require that the Alate Violet have an activation roll 1 Tier above the minimum requirement per d2 of the Asset rating the NPC has (the rating for which is unknown to the Alate). Unlocking an NPCs ability can be attempted once per session.
